Carolina should easily be win number 2

Not so fast.  The Panthers have indeed been horrific this year, especially on offense, but they do find themselves with an opportunity that the Niners had a week ago, against the Raiders. That is….. 0-5,  playing at home, and playing a clearly beatable opponent (sorry Niners). This is a game that could slap some sense into Carolina and one that Coach John Fox and his crew really need. Wide Receiver Steve Smith has returned to practice after being out for three weeks and that alone should help the Panthers offensively. Opening day starting quarterback Matt Moore goes back under center as the Jimmy Clausen “experiment” clearly didn’t work. DeAngelo Williams and James Stewart are both capable running backs, especially if Moore can mix it up with some passing success.

While the Carolina offense has been under siege, their defense has played pretty well this year. The “Julius Pepperless”  front four haven’t been terribly effective, but linebackers James Anderson, John Beason and Dan Connor have all made a lot of tackles and are good athletes. Safety Charles Godfrey leads the NFL in interceptions with 4.  Teams have thrown on the Panthers this year, but that ain’t exactly the Niners strength…..to date.

While the Niners played a turnover free game against the Raiders, they also accumulated 143 yards on 11 penalties, including 9 men on the field for one of their field goal attempts. They are still not executing with any degree of offensive precision. Maybe this will be the week?  This is a game that can surely get the Niners to 2 wins in a row and perhaps jump-start their season? It’s also a game that Carolina has much to gain from.
