Michelle Carter . . . Like Father, Like Daughter?

Remember that old saying:  “Like Father, Like Son?” . . . Well, former SF 49ers all-pro defensive lineman Michael Carter has put a new spin on it:  “Like Father, Like Daughter!”  When we had former equipment manager, Bronco Hinek, on our TV show recently, he brought up Michael’s name in one of his stories . . . and off the air, I mentioned how Michael’s daughter Michelle has followed in her famous fathers Olympic foot steps.  Did you know that she won the women’s shot put at the US Olympic trials last summer and finished in the top-15 in that event at the recent BeiJing Olympic Games.  That had to make her daddy proud and bring back some great memories of his Silver Medal performance in the 1984 Games.  And, the University of Texas athlete, who turned 23 last week, shares something else with her dad — they are the US national high school (girls & boys) record holders in the shot put — Michelle set her record a few years back . . . AND Michael’s remarkable mark of 81-3 1/2, set way back in 1979, still stands.

Congratulations to Michelle & “Pop”  . . . and the whole family — great people . . . and great athletes!
